With the legendary Super Constellation the era of piston-engined aircraft both reached its peak and came to an end. In 1950, in order to keep up with growing numbers of passengers, Lockheed extended the fuselage of the L-749. TWA was one of their first customers. The most successful version was the L.1049G with total sales of 99. On 19.4.1955, the first 'Super Connie' was delivered to Lufthansa. It could carry 77 passengers and had a cruising speed of 450 km-h.
